Take the Helm is a free after school program for high school students in Talbot County. Students have been working on a 15 foot flat-bottomed skiff since January, and the boat will be launched in local waters for the first time on June 23rd. This event is open to the public and is a great way to see the positive things the YMCA and high school students are doing in the community.
What - Take the Helm is hosting a boat launch to celebrate the completion of Take the Helm's first boat build
When - Friday, June 23rd at 1pm
Where - Evergreen Cove, 770 Port Street, Easton, MD 21601
Who - Any and Everyone!! The event is free and open to the public. We encourage Y members, and community members to attend and see what Take the Helm has done this past winter and spring.



Utilizing the art of wooden boat building to:
- build skills
- strengthen self-confidence
- create a sense of community & teamwork
- empower youth to achieve their dreams


Hands-on experience:
- study boat building plans
- assemble components
- build the wooden boats
- launch in our local waterways
- explore Talbot County waterfront

A safe place, allowing students to continue to connect in a fun,
skill-based enrichment program
Launched January, 2017
This is a free year long program open to all high school students (grades 9-12) in the Talbot County area.
There are two sessions for students to choose:
Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday and sessions are from 3:30-6pm. (Space is limited.)
All session registrations must be approved by Adam Hollis, Program Director.
